Internet speed may take until Tuesday to return to normal
Currently, 31 percent people use internet for their personal and commercial needs. And 34 IIG companies work to provide this service uninterruptedly. Among them, 9 active IIGs owe 360 crore taka including 181 crore to Bangladesh Submarine Cables Public Limited Company- BSCPLC. And the company capped 25 percent of the IIGs without a prior announcement on the night before the holiday. Due to this, the users suddenly face slow internet speed across the country. BSCPLC expressed regret on this incident by sending a press release to the media on Saturday.
According to sources, there is still 400 Gbps bandwidth down. As a result, customers of Dhaka and Chattogram are suffering more.
Mahmud Saheed, Member Secretary of International Internet Gateway Association of Bangladesh, said that 250 Gbps bandwidth has been up out of 572 Gbps that was down due to the payment of dues by 4 International Internet Gateway (IIG) operators out of 19. Currently Dhaka, Chattogram and Mymensingh areas are facing the most problems. However, customers across the country are suffering from internet usage on mobile phones. It will take until Tuesday for the internet to be completely normal.
However, the Managing Director of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited Shah Kamal Ahmed said that out of the outstanding 384 crore taka, one operator has paid only 5 crore taka so far. Bandwidth is upped to 100 Gbps, not 250 Gbps; Still down to 400 Gbps bandwidth.
Currently, 5100 Gbps bandwidth is used in the country. Out of this BSCPLC provides 2300Gbps. The rest is from ITC.
